NEW MEXICO DISCOVERY AWARDS

The New Mexico Discovery Awards is an annual fall writing contest open to residents of New Mexico who have not yet published a book in any genre. Awards are given in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Winners and runners-up read as a part of the Center's Spring Reading Series in late-January 2008. 2007 winners in each category will receive a partial scholarship (worth $100) to the 2008 Santa Fe Writers Conference. Second place winners will receive $50 each. Third place winners will have a selection of their winning work published on our website and in a book, along with first and second place winners. Winners will receive two copies of the published contest anthology. Selected works from other entrants may also be published. Books will be available for sale.

To submit, send a cover letter with your name, telephone number, postal and email addresses, and a short bio (50 - 100 words) and up to ten pages (typed, double spaced, 1 inch margins, 12 point font) of previously unpublished writing. Please put your name on all pages. Number all pages. Clearly indicate on your cover letter the category you are entering. Fiction and nonfiction entries may consist of more than one piece of work or be a novel extract.

Please note: Mixed genre entries are not being considered at this time. Entry in more than one genre is acceptable. A separate submission and entry fee is required.

Submission must be postmarked by November 1, 2007 and include a $5 reading fee (check payable to the Southwest Literary Center). Submissions cannot be returned. Do not send your only copy. Send a SASE or postcard for contest results. Winners will also be posted on our website.

Winners will be required to send a copy of the manuscript on disc or by email. By entering the contest you agree to have your work published on our web site and in the anthology.

To submit a manuscript or for more information, please contact New Mexico Discovery Awards, Southwest Literary Center, 826 Camino del Monte Rey/A3, Santa Fe, NM 87505, (505) 577-1125, literarycenter@recursos.org.
